Everybody loves a happy-ever-after story and Prince Harry will give us one this week when he marries his American actress bride with all the pomp and ceremony the British can muster. Harry has had a special place in the public’s heart since the day they watched the young prince walk behind his mother’s coffin on the way to Westminster Abbey. Marriage to Meghan Markle is the fairy-tale ending royalists hoped for. Harry might have been the royal rebel but he has been the driving force behind a fair few good causes ranging from the Invictus Games to the Heads Together charity. Seeing him happily married seems to be the just reward for all that work. As for Meghan, I can’t wait to see the dress. I’m picking she spent much longer agonising over her choice than I did for mine. I bought mine on the way to a football game. It was a rare win for Coventry City and a good omen for me. Forty years later I’m still happily married – and I hope Harry and Meghan will be too.
