Ryan Serhant shares his secrets of success in business.

Anyone can sell anything, but only if they really want to. That’s according to Ryan Serhant who has sold billions of dollars of property across New York, Los Angeles, Miami and The Hamptons.

Serhant, who since 2012 has been a regular force on Million Dollar Listing: New York, is hot property in the world of real-estate as a TV personality and commentator and he has released his first book about sales success.

But if that wasn’t enough, the American is now peddling his charisma to those who need it most.

In his docu-series Sell It Like Serhant, the realtor extraordinaire is hitting the road, sharing his sales secrets to help struggling businesses reach their full potential in just one week. The catch is he’s never sold anything other than real estate.

“I knew it was going to be hard,” Serhant says. “I knew I was going to have to immerse myself into these businesses that I’m just not used to at all. I’ve never sold a hot tub to anyone in my entire life. How do you sell a hot tub?”

The answer is to strap on a swimsuit and know what you’re getting yourself into.

“As a salesperson you have to understand the product you’re selling. You can’t just be on the floor selling hot tubs without actually having just gone into a hot tub.

“With a lot of people I worked with I spent a lot of time helping them understand the product they were selling, really learning about it, really understanding that story because facts tell, but stories sell.”

Serhant says he was surprised by the stories some of the salespeople had to tell about themselves.

“These people are living pay cheque to pay cheque. In some instances they lose their house, in some instances they lose their ability to pay off their student debt, they’re thinking about filing for bankruptcy. These are real scenarios with real people and it made things very, very tough.”

But Serhant believes the thrill of the sale can make all the difference.

“The thrill never goes away to be honest and I think that’s why I stay as successful as I have because I’m addicted to it.”
