Bouquets and brickbats for Coro move
I have no doubt you will be bombarded with letters about the latest ridiculous move by TVNZ to fast-forward 18 months of Coronation Street. John Kelly, TVNZ’s General Manager of Programming, says “we have listened to the viewers”. Well that is total rubbish for a start as if they had listened to what the viewers wanted, we would never have got 18 months behind in the first place. All they had to do was put it on every night of the week and stop taking it off whenever they felt like it or, better still, give it to another channel. It is all very well saying there will be “catch-up episodes” Monday-Friday at 1pm ... what about people who work who won’t have this opportunity? I have never heard of anything so ridiculous to jump ahead 18 months on a soap. What on earth were you thinking, Mr Kelly? You were certainly not thinking of the viewers.

I am absolutely stoked at the Coro Street changes. I have watched it from the very beginning and at long last it is nice to know that John Kelly has listened to us. Let’s hope future episodes are not stopped for other perhaps so-called “important” programmes. Any chance of changing it to TVNZ 2 because of this?

What an exciting time this will be, bringing Coronation Street right up to date – UK time – in New Zealand. It has been absolutely terrible that we have been up to two years behind. I have been getting Coronation Street spoilers sent through to my phone for months now and have also been keeping up to date on the internet, not to mention from family members who live in the UK. While it has been wonderful keeping up with the UK, it has been so boring tuning in from Wednesday night each week to go back so far with the programme. Anyway, great news. My only gripe is the time – 9.30pm is far too late three nights a week, especially as we get older. Why can this programme not screen at 7.30pm or, at the latest, 8.30pm?

Are you all mad at TVNZ? After years of changing times and days and then not even showing Coronation Street to screen other programmes, you have decided to implement the final blow. Watching highlights? It beggars belief. Why not let another channel have it then you can wash your hands of it all together. Oh just an afterthought. Perhaps you could put Coronation Street on instead of all those endless repeats.

While I am pleased that TVNZ has decided to catch up with Coronation Street in Britain, I don’t understand why we can’t have 18 months worth of episodes played out in the evenings. This way we would be able to follow the storylines. Is it possible to put all the missing episodes On Demand so we can catch up quicker? At least viewers are finally being listened to.
