Local shows win vote of approval to celebrate women’s suffrage
Funny Girls has received funding for a 44-minute special to mark 125 years of Women’s Suffrage in New Zealand. Kiwi women won the right to vote on September 19, 1893. The comedy show, based on sketches, interviews and stand-up, is one of 11 TV and online projects that will receive part of a $2 million funding boost and focus on women in lead roles. Other projects include Secret Life Of Girls (a hidden camera experiment), The Forgotten W hine (a doco about Maori women backing suffragists), and What Women Want (about female equality).
