Lo­cal shows win vote of ap­proval to cel­e­brate women’s suf­frage

Funny Girls has re­ceived fund­ing for a 44-minute spe­cial to mark 125 years of Women’s Suf­frage in New Zealand. Kiwi women won the right to vote on Septem­ber 19, 1893. The com­edy show, based on sketches, in­ter­views and stand-up, is one of 11 TV and on­line projects that will re­ceive part of a $2 mil­lion fund­ing boost and fo­cus on women in lead roles. Other projects in­clude Se­cret Life Of Girls (a hid­den cam­era ex­per­i­ment), The For­got­ten W hine (a doco about Maori women back­ing suf­frag­ists), and What Women Want (about fe­male equal­ity).
