Starring Cate Blanchett. Director Julian Rosefeldt.
Forget the ephemeral Galadriel from Lord Of The Rings. It may be Blanchett’s best-known role but the Australian actress is made of more serious stuff. She is the best of her generation and she shows just how good she is in Manifesto, a difficult and complex work, where Rosefeldt uses her to portray 13 characters, all giving monologues in a collage of manifestos which have shaped modern thinking. Rosefeldt says the aim was to “question the role of the artist in society today”. He couldn’t have picked a better examiner.
