At the risk of upsetting rugby fans everywhere, nothing quite beats the beautiful game that is football. As sporting moments go, Winston Reid’s last-gasp goal against Slovakia in the 2010 Football World Cup is without equal. Yes, I know we have three Rugby World Cup triumphs under our belt and, to quote Peter Montgomery, the America’s Cup is once again New Zealand’s Cup, but for heart-stopping joy, Reid’s injury-time header scores every time. New Zealand might not be at this World Cup, but it won’t stop me enjoying all the action. Full marks to Prime for screening 22 of the matches live. Free-to-air TV too often misses out on these big sporting events and not everyone can afford to pay a premium for quality entertainment. Sky might have all the action, but in this regard they have been more than generous. Let’s hope that TVNZ and Spark take note when it comes to the Rugby World Cup.
