The Monster Sky Premiere, 8.30pm Starring Zoe Kazan. This relatively low-budget horror movie punches above its weight in terms of bang – or fang – for buck. A divorced woman is driving her 10-year-old daughter to live permanently with her father when they hit a wolf, sparking a series of terrifying encounters with a monster intent on eating people. And perhaps there is something more at play here... ★★★★

American Heist TVNZ Duke, 8.30pm

Starring Adrien Brody, Hayden Christensen. Odd Russian/American collaboration about a man who has just been released from prison after taking the rap for his brother. Now he is back on the streets and the pair plan one big robbery which will set them up for life. Debuted at the Toronto Film Festival but was definitely out of its depth in an art house setting. However, it is OK, just, as a routine crime thriller. ★★
