FRIDAY
Absolute Fear Three, 1pm Not reviewed.
Gold Sky Premiere, 8.30pm Starring Matthew McConaughey, Edgar Ramirez. Effectively this is the real-life story of the 1993 Bre-X mining scandal centred on a massive gold deposit found in the jungles of Indonesia, although names have been changed and some liberties have been taken. Nonetheless, it is entertaining if somewhat uneven, and McConaughey, also a producer, is a real nugget of the precious stuff. ★★★
Boy M ori TV, 8.30pm Starring James Rolleston, Taika Waititi. Boy practically became a Kiwi classic while still showing in cinemas, and if you haven’t seen it yet, then make sure you watch it this time. Chock-full of deliciously funny one-liners and good old-fashioned Kiwi humour, Boy also has a serious dramatic slant, as it follows the 11-year-old titular lead character, played brilliantly by James Rolleston, on a journey of self-discovery in which he comes to learn things about his beloved dad that maybe he knew all along. ★★★★
