Country a plentiful source of stories
Country Calendar is an institution on New Zealand television, but let’s face it, we have recently had an absolute surfeit of farms, farms, farms. Occasionally we are given a change with fishing or wine. Well, how about these for ideas. As the ‘country’ consists of more than just farming, why not put together some programmes on ... What has become of the old dairy factories around the country? There must be hundreds of them with great stories to tell. Also, timber and milling; the many wonderful branches of Rural Women would have stories of achievement to share; trucking companies and the huge variety of goods, stock etc they carry; vintage machinery museums; how our milk gets from cow to table; hay making from the ‘olden days’ to today; wool from the sheep’s back to the blanket or human back; grain from seed to shop. I am sure that if the producers of Country Calendar put their collective heads together they would come up with such a variety of programmes, we would never be bored again.
