The Darkest Minds

The TV Guide - - DVD RELEASES -

Starring Amandla Stenberg, Harris Dickinson. Director Jennifer Yuh Nelson.

When a pandemic sweeps Earth killing 98 per cent of children, the survivors are left with enhanced mental abilities, and are placed into rehabilitation camps by those now controlling the world. Stenberg plays Ruby, a 10 year old with some of the most potent powers of the survivors. It plays out like a cross between X-Men and movies such as Hunger Games/Maze Runner – ie, mutant kids coming to terms with themselves in the face of a hostile world order. As such, it does little to differentiate itself from other similar teen movies and, after an intriguing start, becomes simplistic and predictable with an ending obviously set up for a sequel.
