MERV SMITH:
One of New Zealand’s first radio personalities, Smith hosted 1ZB’s breakfast show from 1961 until 1987. Renowned for his humour, he once offered the Auckland Harbour Bridge for sale, saying it was in good condition with “slightly cracked clip-ons”. He was no stranger to acting, appearing in local television dramas ranging from Shortland Street to Mercy Peak. Died September 24, aged 85.
