Fighting for justice

-

Ever since I saw her playing sharp-tongued Maryann in the 90s comedy Cybill, I have thought Christine Baranski, 66, was a great actress. While she’s had a long career in Hollywood, she tends to be cast in supporting roles. But in The Good Fight, the smart spin-off series from the US drama The Good Wife, she is front and centre as shrewd lawyer Diane Lockhart. The character is on the verge of retiring when she discovers her savings have disappeared in a Ponzi scheme. Forced out of her law firm and desperate for money, she takes a position at a rival business alongside her goddaughter lawyer Maia, played by former Game Of Thrones actress Rose Leslie. Other actors in The Good Fight are

Bernadette Peters (Mozart In The Jungle) and Gary Cole (Veep). The show’s first two seasons are now available and a third is in the works. Streams on Amazon Prime Video.
