Praise in all directions for Go South

-

What an amazing experience to sit in front of TV for three hours to watch Go South (Prime, January 19-20) and feel like I have travelled from Auckland to Milford Sound by train, boat and road. What a beautiful country we live in. Milford Sound is one of my favourite places and to experience the beauty of it again was such a joy. What a peaceful and relaxing three hours enjoying beautiful scenery without background music, talking or ads and the informative captions added to such an outstanding programme. Thank you to all who made this trip possible.

Congratulations on a wonderful tour of the country but (a) why not road trip from Cape Reinga to Auckland? and (b) the captions were too small and hard to see on a light background of sky. Otherwise it was a wonderful programme. Captivating, yet relaxing, and sleep-inducing at the same time.

Prime responds: We’re delighted you enjoyed Go South and thanks for your suggestion about a northern trip. We’re looking at a number of other iconic Kiwi journeys so will add that to our list. We have adjusted the captions to make them easier to read when we screen Go South again on Good Friday.

The programme Go South was hypnotic and fascinating even without dialogue. Go South shows what a lovely country we have with different scenic wonders at every corner. A big thankyou to the team who gave us Go South. It would be great to have it on a DVD.

Thanks for putting on such a great programme as Go South. We have had to watch it over several nights, but were really impressed with the fact that there were no ads, no loud background music and no narration, yet you still knew lots about where they were and what was out the windows. Well done again. Let’s get more of these types of TV programmes.

Janet Leger (Levin)

Thank you, Prime for the lovely train trip down both islands. I sat there until 12.30am, although I needed to go to bed as I had to get up early the next morning. At the age of 90 this is not easy to do. But why on earth was a picture as wonderful as this put on so late? Different people I spoke to have said they watched until 10.30pm but just had to go to bed. I feel sorry for them. They missed so much. It was the best travel picture I have ever seen. The journey was absolutely marvellous. Three hours of blissful peaceful viewing. I hope there will be more programmes like it and in a better timeslot.

Prime responds: Thanks, Val. We’re sorry to keep you up so late. You’ll be pleased to hear we will be screening Go South again on Good Friday; the full 12-hour journey from 5.30am until 5.30pm and the three-hour trip from 7pm.
