SATURDAY
The Karate Kid Part Three, 7pm Starring Pat Morita, Ralph Macchio. This attempt to recycle the original film’s material is competent enough but obviously by-the-numbers fare. However, Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio are still appealingly believable as martial arts mentor and apprentice. ★★★

Mary And The Witch’s Flower M ori TV, 7pm Voices Ruby Barnhill. This Japanese-made, anime-style film is based on an English children’s novel, The Little Broomstick, written by Mary Stewart. Somewhat Potteresque, a girl called Mary Smith finds a flower that gives her the power to become a witch, and ends up at a college for witches. In this version, the original Japanese voice actors have been replaced by English speaking ones. ★★★★
Bicentennial Man
TVNZ 2, 7pm
Starring Robin Williams. This poorly handled adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s science-fiction short story about a robot who strives to become human sometimes works, but is perhaps a bit more sombre and sentimental than it really needs to be. ★★★
