The Apprentice UK
TVNZ 1, 8.30pm
If you only know one thing about The Apprentice it is probably that Donald Trump used to be its host. His catchphrase on the hit reality show became ‘You’re fired’. Oh, the irony. Across the Atlantic, the show’s UK version has become associated with billionaire businessman Lord Alan Sugar. Here he sets tasks for budding entrepreneurs who each hope to win a quarter of a million pounds in investment from Sugar. The show’s first episode features the 16 contestants being sent to Malta’s capital city, Valletta, for a specific challenge.
Taranaki Hard Three, 8.40pm
The Taranaki town of Waitara comes under the spotlight in this local documentary series which looks at life through the lens of some of its young people.
Those profiled include an anxious teenage girl, a job-seeking former head boy, and a supermarket worker. Publicity material for the show describes the programme as “revealing, raw, gritty, and confronting”.
Filthy House Swap TVNZ 2, 9.35pm
In this UK documentary, two families whose cleaning habits have definite room for improvement, swap houses. With the help of experts (people with industrial-strength disinfectant and super-powerful cleaning tools perhaps?), each family must tidy up their temporary surroundings within four days. They must contend with things like carpet thick with dust and bed linen that has not been changed in months. It is hoped that by cleaning up someone else’s mess, each family will feel inspired to take better care of their own home.
