The Governess rules among readers

-

These letters are in response to an editorial by Julie Eley in which she asked readers to name their favourite Chaser from The Chase. It was a close call but ‘The Governess’ Anne Hegerty emerged as the winner from those who responded. Thanks to everyone who wrote in. After a random draw, M.G. Lee of Nelson wins the six-month subscription to TV Guide.

As I like all of the Chasers, I do not have a clear-cut favourite. However, the one who stands out the most to me is the Irishman Darragh Ennis. This man first appeared on The Chase as a contestant and was obviously so good he was invited to join the show as a Chaser. Truly amazing. I really wish I could see a replay of the episode he competed in and see which Chaser he faced.

M.G. Lee (Nelson)

Mr Telly responds: Darragh Ennis was part of a winning team on The Chase in 2017 when he defeated Paul Sinha ‘The Sinnerman’.

My favourite Chaser is Anne Hegerty. She really seems as though she enjoys the show and has a pleasant smile which matches her personality, being consistently pleasant to her contestants. I like the way she just raises one eyebrow with a smile when Bradley Walsh teases her. I love her.

Margaret Collishaw (Christchurch)

Definitely The Beast (Mark). He is so knowledgeable and you can see contestants’ hearts sink when he comes out. I can only imagine it would feel like that to be there. Although he has had a few tantrums over the years (inappropriately), he has mellowed and is giving constructive feedback to teams these days. As with all the Chasers, the interaction with Bradley is priceless.

G. McMillan (Auckland)

I really like Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’. His sense of humour and interaction with the contestants is always positive and encouraging. He is never afraid to sing and make fun of himself. He is a good entertainer and quizzer. The Chase is one of my favourite shows as you can gain a lot of knowledge. It’s fun to watch.

I love each one of the Chasers but the one that stands out the most is Anne Hegerty. She always has that twinkle in her eye and really enjoys being teased. She has been to New Zealand, as has Shaun. I try to watch every episode as it’s good for the brain trying to answer the questions. I also love Bradley Walsh. He really makes the programme. Hopefully, The Chase will keep on going for many years to come. I just love them.

Brenda Healey (Temuka)

My favourite Chaser is Anne. She is funny but also very fair and can be kind also. The one I do not like is The Dark Destroyer. He dismisses those that he has beaten with his “Just another day at the office”. It’s not funny and it’s rude.
