Breathtaking brings back memories

-

We have just viewed the three-part British series Breathtaking and were captivated. It was an eye opener showing how poorly the British medical staff were treated by their Health department and how they just kept working. Joanne Froggatt played an amazing part which cannot have been easy to cope with at times; she is a wonderful actress. We feel this is a must-see for us all to get an idea of what is was really like to be on the front line of the Covid pandemic, and having to put up with all the negativity from protestors outside the hospitals saying it was a hoax – that must have been extremely upsetting for them. Ronnie Douglas (Levin)

The mini-series Breathtaking was fantastic and so moving. It did, however, bring back some horrible memories of our own lockdown. I was a support worker during that time for a large organisation looking after elderly people living in their own homes. The day before lockdown I went to get some supplies but was told there were no masks available and the MOH said they were not needed. I was devastated as there was none in the shops. The people in the office went home to their bubble but I had to leave my bubble and go into 10 to 20 other bubbles each day with the only protection a pair of gloves and an apron. It was a scary time and I was lucky I didn’t catch Covid during that time, but several other support workers did. Karen (Porirua)

I would like to say thank you for the programme Breathtaking. It was good to see another perspective on what was happening in the hospitals during Covid-19. I would like to say thank you to all the medical staff for what they did during this tough time. Gemma Brown (Rolleston)
