Craft beer industry a boon for business

-

Upper Hutt’s push to become a destination hub for the region’s craft beer industry is moving at pace. The relatively long established Panhead and Kereru operations are being augmented with the arrival of Boneface Brewery, a new business, and Te Aro Brewing’s re-location from Wellington. More are hopefully on the way too and Neighbourly contributors were uniform in welcoming the happenings at the South Pacific Industrial Park, the former Dunlop building, and not having a bar of any suggestion the industry might not be suitable.

RATTAN PRAKASH, RIVERSTONETERRACES

It’s a fantastic idea. I think only liquor outlets will oppose if it’s going to dilute their business.

JO GREENMAN, TIMBERLEA

Craft beer is like fine wines - I don’t get why you would not want it, great good quality local produce, employment for locals and supporting our economy.

FIONA MCKAY, MAYMORN

Craft beer is refined and enjoyed by people who enjoy taste not getting pissed. We need to support new business and NZ based companies. Wellington is being sold as the craft beer capital we need to embrace it in Upper Hutt. Bring it on.

SANDRA ALEXANDER, TIMBERLEA

Wish I was a risk taker. I truly hope these folk see their dreams come to fruition and are around for years to come.

SUE HAZLEWOOD, TRENTHAM

Not sure why the question is even being asked. I very much doubt the council would listen even if objections were raised, which I am not doing as it happens.

CAROL PIRIKA, CLOUSTON PARK-KINGSLEY HEIGHTS

Personally, I love that this type of industry is being crafted in Upper Hutt. What a fabulous drawcard for tourism, what an amazing score for us as locals who have been dreaming of such things! We just need to get some food matchings, some more food trucks to support and a good deli or two.

BECKY GIBSON, TRENTHAM

Adding to the food matchings and food trucks wouldn’t a top quality beer garden in the locale be wonderful on summer days? Bliss!

MICHAEL ROMANOS, PINEHAVEN

A craft beer hub in Upper Hutt - perhaps to the level of the best town for the craft beer industry in both NZ and Australia. What a boon this would be for UH and the Wellington region. From a craft beer industry producing circuit hub comes other commercial growth and activities.

NATHAN CLARK, TRENTHAM

It’s a great idea. Take it one step further and make an actual tasting room/cellar where all of the craft breweries have there wares on display. What about tours of the various establishments. Really make it something.

MARY BETH TAYLOR, WALLACEVILLE - WHITEMANSVALLEY

I like not only that this celebrates a local product and encourages other micro-breweries to set up in Upper Hutt but also because this has the potential to inspire local community events built around it. These kinds of events can encourage local sales of accommodation, food, associated merchandising etc.

JOHN GROOME, EBDENTOWN

We should all be encouraging businesses, irrespective of their industry, to the city but more importantly we should be supporting them to the best of our ability. Win-win for all.

SERAH SMITH, PINEHAVEN

Upper Hutt needs more opportunities for jobs, bringing back business is great for everyone.
