Upper Hutt Leader

Hurricanes on park screen

- COLIN WILLIAMS

The Hurricanes will be battling away in Hamilton but the best way to give them ’’live’’ support against the Chiefs on March 10 will be to be part of the crowd at our own Harcourt Park.

As part of a wide range of outdoor activities for Wellington region’s Parks Week (March 4-12) a free live screening of the Super Rugby is happening from 6.30pm at the sound stage of the picturesque and popular park.

Activation, the Upper Hutt City Council’s recreation team, is hosting the event which, as a bonus, will have some non- travelling Hurricanes’ players coming along for for what, arguably, is their teammates’ first meaningful game in defence of their history making title success a season ago.

‘‘The sound stage at Harcourt Park is an ideal venue for a big screening of this event,’’ Activation team leader Ellie Davidson said.

‘‘Families are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket along and support their local Super Rugby team.

‘‘There will be a range of food trucks in attendance to support this event,’’ Davidson said.

Parks Week, which is also featuring several events at Kaitoke Regional Park, is managed by the New Zealand Recreation Association and Parks and Leisure Australia.

It is all about promoting the benefits of our parks and open space.

Parks Week involves several councils and other organisations (on both sides of the Tasman) holding events to encourage people to get out of their living rooms and explore, discover and enjoy the great outdoors.

The Super Rugby screening has received support from The Gas Hub, the Hurricanes and The Big Screen Company.
