Waiheke residentsmichael Fleck and Osher Oriyah are helping Gary Cook and Kirar Taraishia lead a Sacred Kauri Hikoi from March 17 to 23. The walk aims to heal kauri trees, which are dying. Tangata whenua, healers, musicians and ‘tree people’ are invited to visit kauri sites north of Auckland from a safe distance. The group plans to ‘‘listen deeply at the edges of the forests, to hear the wisdom of these trees, offer karakia and ceremony, and broaden our understanding,’’ Fleck said.
