An indie trio is set to perform at the local folk club.

Katikati Folk Club is the first stop of the debut album release nationwide tour of West Auckland band Fables.

Lead by Jess Bailey, the band will take on the stage tomorrow at the Katikati Bowling Club.

Fables produces a gentle and heartfelt indie-folk sound.

Jess Bailey was taught by the Mackenzie Hills of the south Kaipara, dredged in the waters of Muriwai Beach then hung out to dry in the plum trees at home.

This imagery is littered throughout the band’s lyrics.

Jess’s velveteen voice, intermingled with a collection of strings and other harmonies, should find you quite at home.

The new EP, Portraits, was

recorded with Rohan Evans at the Wine Cellar and Fables will be bringing a trio on the road to celebrate. This trio will be augmented by some of their favourite musicians that they pick up as they head south.

Jess and her band also recorded a First Song: Fables session on RNZ with Jesse Mulligan last July.
