School wants scrap me­tal for fundraiser

The Waihi Cen­tral School needs your help and is on the lookout for any scrap me­tal to help raise funds for its North­land Ad­ven­ture Camp.

Its scrap me­tal fundraiser starts on Mon­day and will run through un­til Sun­day Septem­ber 23.

The fundraiser will en­able the school to take its Year 5 and 6 stu­dents to North­land for a learn­ing ex­pe­ri­ence out­side the class­room.

Deputy prin­ci­pal Vanessa Maun­der is en­cour­ag­ing peo­ple in the com­mu­nity to do­nate any un­wanted items made of ma­te­ri­als like alu­minium, cop­per, lead and steel.

“We would be very happy to take them off your hands. We will send a col­lec­tion team to your prop­erty to pick up the items and take them away. The col­lec­tion area in­cludes Waihi, Waikino, Waitawheta, Golden Val­ley, Waimata, Waihi Beach, Bowen­town, Athen­ree Gorge and Athen­ree.”

She said the school was very for­tu­nate to have the sup­port of the Waihi Lions Club and OceanaGold in this ven­ture and greatly ap­pre­ci­ated their as­sis­tance.
