Fun-filled year for beach WI

- By NICKY BAILEY

It has been a very busy fun-filled year so far for the Waihi Beach Women’s Institute.

We have had our summer picnic at Anzac Bay and a trip to Kaiaua for fish and chips and a walk on the beach. We have had two very interesting speakers come and talk to us about Japan and the workings of St John. In June we had a lovely mid-winter meal at the Bowentown Boating Club and the Waihi Beach RSA Women’s Section invited us to afternoon tea.

We entered three teams into the Hauraki/Thames District Women’s Institute Federation Indoor Bowls competition and one of our teams won. We are now off to Rotorua in October to represent Waihi Beach in the regional competition. We continue to do baby knitting for the Tauranga Hospital and have several knitted blankets to be donated to Waipuna Hospice later in the year.

We are looking forward to our National Awareness Week coming up in the second week of October.

Look out for posies left around Waihi Beach for lucky locals to find. So far this year we have welcomed five new members and we would love to see more. We meet once a month on the second Monday at 1pm at St Peters by the Sea Church Hall, Marine Ave, Waihi Beach.
