Losing locks for leukaemia
Waihi College Shave for a Cure fundraising event for the Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand went ballistic with nearly $6000 raised, nearly doubling the school’s original goal.
Waihi College principal Alistair Cochrane went all-in for a shave after the team’s outstanding fundraising effort.
Nearly $6000 was raised during Waihi College’s Shave for a Cure.
The college has been a strong supporter of the annual Leukaemia & Blood Cancer fundraising event and this year was no exception.
Around 20 students and three staff got their locks lopped off last Thursday.
Service leader Avalon McNair organised the event and an online fundraising page, which was at nearly $4600 at print time, was set up.
The team collected an extra $1300-plus of donations, almost doubling the original goal of $3000.
Principal Alistair Cochrane saluted the students’ effort by getting his hair coloured green and then shaving off on the night.
Of the 100 schools registered nationwide to fundraise for the cause, Waihi College sits in 22nd place.
