First XI wins five-a-side contest
Waihi College Football attended the annual One Agency five-aside tournament on Saturday, September 15 in Hamilton.
Three local teams entered the tournament — 1st X1 boys, 1st X1 girls and the Year 9/10 Colts.
Hamilton put on a fine day once fog lifted and the football matched the stunning day.
The 1st X1 Boys came away with a win in the premier division after a strong win over the top Hamilton Boys High
School team that came out a little over confident, perhaps thinking Waihi was going to be easy pickings.
A very impressive final score
6-1 to Waihi with Keegan Hammerton having an amazing day in goal.
The 1st X1 girls finished in the top four of their division after some decent battles.
The year 9/10 Colt boys were still on a high after winning the league the weekend before at home over Te Awamutu, and went on to take out their division as overall winners and completing the double for the year after winning five of their six games over all, including a win over the team that was their only loss in the group stages.
They went on to beat them in the semi final in a penalty shoot out in which Goal Keeper Joseph Burrell saved the final penalty which sent them through to the final after facing the opposition goalkeeper. The final was to be played against Te Awamutu, the same team they played at home to secure the league which again proved to be just as tough as in the league as they had a score to settle. They were very competitive however Waihi came away with the victory 2-1.
A successful day out showing again that football in Waihi is performing well.
1st X1 team.
Year 9/10 Waihi Colts.
