ARMISTICE DAY REMEMBERED
On Sunday in Paeroa at 10.55am a parade assembled under Commander John D’Ath to mark the centenary of Armistice Day. The small crowd was welcomed by RSA president Dave Rawlinson and at 11am one minute of silence followed. A homily was given by Reverend Heather Simpson then two Miller Avenue School students, Nicholas Rosenberg and Eternal Te Moananui, spoke. Lone piper Ron Ferguson played, and the
Last Post was played by Sietze de Jong. The Ode of
Remembrance was read by Welfare Advisor Carol Linton. The event ended with Reveille played by Mrs de Jong and balloons were released over Paeroa by students.
The Waihi Community turned out in force over the weekend to pay tribute to those who served and lost their lives in World War I.
