Locals are being asked to write a thought for others at Christmas.

Hauraki District Council libraries are taking part in a national initiative Sending Love — Christmas Cards for Those Alone for Christmas.

It is the second year of the project but the first time the Hauraki libraries were taking part.

Library assistant Rochelle Ganderton noticed the concept on social media and approached the library manager.

Hauraki District Council communications officer Paula Trubshaw says the feedback from the community has been supportive.

“We’ve received lots of wonderful cards. People can either buy a card or make their own, write a nice message in it, then drop it into any of our libraries.” The cards would be given to people in rest homes who had no family or friends to

visit them.

“The idea is to send a message of love for those who may be alone at Christmas.”

Library assistant Rochelle Ganderton hopes people will be part of the Sending Love — Christmas Cards for Those Alone for Christmas initiative.
