Enjoy the ultimate family rural lifestyle

- By Cameron Scott www.bayleys.co.nz/2350639

The owners of this exceptional lifestyle property at 4/158 Maungakawa Road say they love its close proximity to Cambridge town centre and the uninterrupted views to the Maungakawa hills and surrounding farmland.

The large in-ground heated pool is another big plus for Mark and Kath, who built the spacious designer home on the 4,524sqm property after owning a home just down the road, for 10 years.

“We were ready for a change,” says Kath. “We wanted to stay in the same area, so we felt really lucky when this section became available, enabling us to build while staying in the same location.”

Now another project in a different location is calling the couple and their family, and their home of just eight months is on the market with Amanda Merrington of Bayleys Cambridge.

The home and grounds offer uninterrupted views over farmland and on to the Maungakawa hills from the kitchen, living areas and master bedroom. The sunsets are spectacular and the kitchen and lounge both open up to the large inground heated pool. Beautiful 100-year-old oak trees can be seen from all of the bedrooms and provide a stunning backdrop.

Located at the end of a private lane, the luxurious 297sqm home is not easily visible from the road. It was built by highly regarded Urban Homes, drawing on the owners’ design talents, and their love of this unique setting. Special features include covered and open entertaining areas, raised ceilings and ducted heating and cooling throughout, attic storage, high ceilings, three distinctly separate living areas, and a handy bar outside the kitchen window.

Entering the home, your eye is drawn ahead to a floor to ceiling window and the large flat lawn and farmland beyond. A brick feature wall runs along the entrance path to the front door and into the home, forming the wall of the lounge with a gas fireplace on the other side.

The four double bedrooms are located in a separate wing and include a restful master suite with views, a large walk-in wardrobe, and tiled ensuite, there is also a third lounge and office nook in this wing.

The kitchen was designed to have a connection with the pool area and the open plan dining and living spaces and there’s an easy flow to a second lounge, or covered verandah with skylights – perfect for alfresco dining out of the wind and elements.

“We have loved the pool during the warm summer days - as well as the not-so-warm ones thanks to the heat pump, says Kath. “The window seat is our favourite spot for morning coffee, while in the evening the lounge, which is cosy yet filled with light thanks to the large glass sliders on either side, is another favourite.

“We love the feeling of space with the large grounds and there is plenty of scope to develop them further. Being so close to town yet feeling like you are right in the country is wonderful. Thanks to the covered deck, we can still enjoy being outside on rainy days.”

Plans to accommodate a boat, “toys” and a workshop are underway, with a large

10m x 8m steel framed 2.5 bay shedding near completion, ready for the new owners’ arrival.

Sought-after Maungakawa Village provides space and a relaxed rural connection, yet is only moments from the edge of town, and the beautiful walk through native bush at the top of Maungakawa hill is just a five minute drive away.
