The Proclaimers are coming — no 500 mile walks required
Scotland’s favourite twins, Craig and Charlie Reid — otherwise known as The Proclaimers — are making a most welcome and much-anticipated return to our shores and the good news is they’ll be playing at a venue very close to you.
Regardless of where you are in Aotearoa, there’ll be no travelling 500 miles or anything resembling that distance to see them. You’ll only ever be a short drive away from sitting down, kicking back and enjoying I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) and a swag of other hits and fan favourites.
Strikingly individual, Craig and Charlie Reid emerged 31 years ago with their debut album This Is The Story and Top 3 single Letter From America. Since then, their enduring
appeal across generations has, over the years, seen them enjoy huge success across the globe
They have a new album, Dentures Out and will be presenting some of the tracks from that which have instantly struck a chord with fans.
Dentures Out has been described in Louder Than War’s review as showing the band as being “at their sharpest, wittiest, loudest and rocking best” and as a “must-listen”.
Best then look out for The World That Was, Dentures Out and Sundays
By John Calvin from the album, which have regularly made the cut in recent concerts.
Expect, too, the songs that have made the Proclaimers both known and loved the world over. Songs such as Let’s Get Married, Cap In Hand, Then I Met You, I’m On My Way, Make My Heart Fly, The Joyful Kilmarnock
Blues to name but a few.
Here’s what a couple of the Youtube listeners have had to say about another Proclaimers’ mega hit Sunshine On Leith: “You don’t have to be Scottish to love this song. Just listen and feel the beauty of it”.
“Some songs transcend their era, their genre, their culture, just because they are so poignant and talk to the humanity within us, this song is one of those.” (Sounds English)
So, if you can tell the difference between margarine and butter, if you can say Saskatchewan without starting to stutter, then chances are you can pretty much say “I’m On My Way” to see one of the most powerful, passionate and poignant shows on planet Earth.
