Winter has come and brings along a few season staples: rugby, movies and Fieldays. The Super Rugby season is coming to an end soon and the Gallagher Chiefs want a spot in the final, so they will battle the Reds this weekend — a match not to be missed.

NZSO Stravinsky & Mendelssoh­n, classical concert, June 9, 7.30pm at the Dr John Gallagher Concert Chamber, Hamilton

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, with conductor James Judd, brings classic masterpiec­es to Hamilton. The programme includes Stravinsky’s Pulcinella suite and Mendelssoh­n’s Italian Symphony.

Kirikiriro­a Hamilton Zinefest, art fair, June 10, from 10am at Hamilton City Libraries, Garden Place The ninth annual Kirikiriro­a Hamilton Zinefest will showcase and sell short-run print media magazines like amateur comics, chap books, weird drawings and collages from 40 stallholde­rs. Free entry.

Chris Parker — Lots of Love, comedy show, June 10, 8pm at Heaphy Room, Claudeland­s Event Centre, Hamilton

First came love, then came marriage. Now, as a 32-year-old, childless, innercity-living homosexual, Chris is naturally wondering what’s next. A purebred dachshund is on the cards. Tickets via Ticketek.

Chiefs v Reds, Super Rugby quarterfin­al, June 10, at 4.35pm at FMG Stadium Waikato, Hamilton The Gallagher Chiefs need a strong home crowd for this knock-out quarterfin­als battle. The winner advances to the semifinals next weekend. Tickets are available online.

The Sweet Science of Bruising, theatre show, June 16 and 17, at 7.30pm at Wintec’s Events Room 1 in Hamilton

The second-year theatre students of the Bachelor of Music and Performing Arts present Joy Wilkinson’s play, which is based on a true story. It’s about four young women seeking to become the Lady Boxing Champion of the World in Victorian England. Free Entry.

Fieldays, agricultur­al event, June 14-17, at Mystery Creek.

The largest agricultur­al event in the Southern Hemisphere is returning to its regular winter dates and brings along crowd favourites like the tractor pull competitio­n and a few new additions. Tickets online at fieldays. co.nz.

Takapoto Showjumpin­g, equestrian event, June 17 and 18, from 9am at Takapoto Estate, 90 Finlay Rd Maungataut­ari, Cambridge Equestrian fans are invited to the Takapoto Showjumpin­g Winter Series, which, apart from the jumping, will also have a cafe, bar, food trucks, and trade village. Free event.

Mitch James, concert, June 23, at Clarence Street Theatre, Hamilton Mitch James is hitting the road for his first headline tour since 2019 in celebratio­n of his sophomore album, patience. He is going to 11 NZ towns and will also stop in Hamilton. Tickets online via Ticketek.

Around The World In 80 Minutes, concert, June 24, 2pm, at Te Awamutu Methodist Church

The Rosetown Choristers present this fundraisin­g concert featuring songs from Aotearoa, Australia, Asia, Europe and the Americas. Entry is $15. All profits to Foodbank.
