Kereone centenary next May
Preparations for the May 2019 Kereone Rugby and Sports Club centenary celebrations continue with a committee finalising the weekend’s programme, and production of a commemorative publication in hand.
Researching the club’s history has turned up a number of interesting facts, including the decision for Kereone’s choice of playing strip effectively being made for them.
“The first choice was blue, but due to First World War shortages, green and white jerseys were the only set available,” Publication editor Dennis Scott says.
“The rest, as they say, is history.”
Help with history of the more modern kind is what Scott and fellow researchers, club president Nigel Leeson and life member Jack Pickett are looking for.
“Our 50 and 75-year publications are a great foundation, but there’s still a few things that we need and would like help finding for the 100th. For instance, those interesting, humorous club-related snippets and photos that are out there,” says Dennis. “It would be great to include some action shots from the early days of beach volleyball as well.”
group is putting the final touches to the weekend’s programme.
