Kere­one cen­te­nary next May

Prepa­ra­tions for the May 2019 Kere­one Rugby and Sports Club cen­te­nary cel­e­bra­tions con­tinue with a com­mit­tee fi­nal­is­ing the week­end’s pro­gramme, and pro­duc­tion of a com­mem­o­ra­tive pub­li­ca­tion in hand.

Re­search­ing the club’s history has turned up a number of in­ter­est­ing facts, in­clud­ing the de­ci­sion for Kere­one’s choice of play­ing strip ef­fec­tively be­ing made for them.

“The first choice was blue, but due to First World War short­ages, green and white jer­seys were the only set avail­able,” Pub­li­ca­tion ed­i­tor Den­nis Scott says.

“The rest, as they say, is history.”

Help with history of the more modern kind is what Scott and fel­low re­searchers, club pres­i­dent Nigel Leeson and life mem­ber Jack Pick­ett are look­ing for.

“Our 50 and 75-year pub­li­ca­tions are a great foun­da­tion, but there’s still a few things that we need and would like help find­ing for the 100th. For in­stance, those in­ter­est­ing, hu­mor­ous club-re­lated snip­pets and photos that are out there,” says Den­nis. “It would be great to in­clude some ac­tion shots from the early days of beach volleyball as well.”

Se­nior, ju­nior and golden oldies rugby and net­ball games are in­cluded, along with a number of high profile speak­ers and a range of so­cial events .
