Lucky dip approach

-

Regarding the Waikato Times editorial of May 1 – ‘‘Man up, councillors’’. It asks, is someone up at City Hall playing practical jokes?

‘‘We didn’t know’’ is the repeated catchphrase of our councillors. How many times can these people point the finger at others and get away with it?

Cr Dave Macpherson took the opportunity to broadside the mayor, citing the ‘‘brave new world of Julie Hardaker’’, where, according to him, she is the only one ‘‘allowed in the kitchen’’.

Seriously, are we to believe a four-term councillor with a reputation for being aggressive and combative still won’t venture into the kitchen to see what’s cooking after all the bungled projects he helped approve?

Their failures as the governance board to implement the necessary checks and balances for management are continuing to cost ratepayers dearly.

This latest communications fiasco affecting 28,000 ratepayers over flood risk and high voltage lines shows clearly that management and council are still operating with a ‘‘full of surprises policy’’.

Forget risk management and coordinated open information sharing, they obviously favour the lucky dip approach.

There are only two jokers in a pack of cards.

How lucky are we to have so many at HCC? TANIA HENNEBRY Hamilton
