Psychiatric drugs
In support of Annette Hervey’s letter ( Waikato Times, May 11, 2012) New Zealand has been constantly criticised by the WHO (World Health Organisation) for its heavy reliance on psychiatric drugging of mental health patients. Increasingly, other countries are reviewing mental health programmes to avoid such reliance.
Psychiatric drugs are extremely addictive with a variety of undesirable side-effects. Research by the psychiatric profession has uncovered the fact that most patients did better on a placebo.
Much can be achieved through good counselling, family support and a well-balanced diet.
