Carter mixes with A-list in Hollywood
Dan Carter is making the most of a sabbatical from rugby, as he rubs shoulders with movie stars in Hollywood.
Today is Tinseltown’s biggest night, and after the Oscar statues have been handed out one of the hottest tickets in town is Sir Elton John’s famous Academy Awards party – and the Carters are on the guest list.
Carter met Sir Elton backstage at New York’s Madison Square Garden in December. The Carters are already in Los Angeles, and have been tweeting up a storm.
Over the weekend Carter posted a photo of himself and Honor with Hollywood A-lister Jamie Foxx.
‘‘Can’t believe @HonorCarter had no idea who this guy was haha,’’ Carter posted. ‘‘Of course I did!’’ she replied. ‘‘If it wasn’t for me you wouldn’t have a photo #tooscared.’’

As well as mixing it with stars the pair have been visiting tourist spots like Venice Beach, shopping and enjoying cocktails.
But Carter, who began a six-month break from all rugby after the All Blacks end of year tour in a bid to be fresh for next year’s Rugby World Cup, has also been keeping up his fitness, tweeting pics from the hotel gym explaining ‘‘gotta keep the work up while I’m away from home’’.
Sir Elton’s annual shindig is a fundraiser for the Elton John Aids Foundation.
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay will cook dinner, and guests will include Jim Carrey, Dame Judi Dench, Quincy Jones, Heidi Klum, Katy Perry and Sharon Stone.
But the Carters will be able to hear the odd Kiwi accent too – fellow New Zealanders Keith Urban and Anna Paquin are also tipped to attend.
British pop star Ed Sheeran will perform.
It’s also a big night for Sir Peter Jackson’s second Hobbit film, The Desolation of Smaug which has three Oscar nominations in technical categories.
