Thieves smash shop window, take stock

- Florence Kerr

Half a mannequin has gone missing as well as a number of fashionable clothes after a ramraid on a high-end fashion store in Hamilton early yesterday.

Sisters on London owner Julie Barbour said the occupants of a vehicle that rammed into the window display stole $3000 worth of stock, including new season denim, knits and the torso of a mannequin.

‘‘I guess it could have been worse,’’ Ms Barbour told the Waikato Times as she was cleaning the store.

The alarm went off at 4.48am, and within minutes Ms Barbour, who has owned the store with her sister for six years, had arrived to find the shop in a mess.

Angela Thomas, manager of Columbus Coffee, on the corner of Victoria and London streets, said that when she arrived at work at 5.30am she saw people sweeping, but didn’t think it was anything of signifi- cance.

District shift manager Senior Sergeant Andrew O’Reilly said they were working to obtain CCTV footage of the area. It appeared a vehicle or heavy machinery was used to smash a large front window, he said.

Mr O’Reilly asked anyone who was in the area who saw anything unusual to contact Hamilton police.
