Desirable hours

-

So Countdown believes it knows better than the local communities what are the desirable hours for selling liquor ( Times, March 1) and apparently is going to bully its way to getting what it wants. I suggest to Hauraki District Mayor John Tregigda (and any other mayors who are being threatened with legal action) that he serves notice on Countdown that if it intends to proceed against the wishes of his community then he will encourage his community to boycott Countdown. I am sure that the other commercial opposition to Countdown will be pleased to provide an alternative service. I was taught in my youth that the best way to stop a bully was to punch him in the nose. Time to let Countdown know that your community will not be bullied. Show it that the community wishes are not going to be overridden by big business and that is what is going to be! RON PENGELLY Hamilton say to these bullies, you have NO right to force these horrible business practices on to the public of New Zealand. Please all concerned people, stand firm and let your local and national politicians know they have to stand firm. Don’t we have enough antisocial problems in this small country without allowing another one on to the streets? Our lives are blighted enough by ruthless greedy people who can only see dollar signs. Where are the likes of lawyer Phillippa Clifford and Progressive Enterprises coming from? What world do they live in? Not the ordinary citizen of New Zealand, that’s for sure.
