Mega management for city’s Mitre 10 chief

- Jamie Small

The proposed Ruakura Mitre 10 Mega would be operated by the same manager of Mitre 10 Mega Hamilton at The Base.

Hamilton resident Terry Wilson is managing director of Hamilton Hardware Retail Limited, the company that owns and operates the store at The Base.

The proposed store would sit on the corner of Wairere Drive and Ruakura Rd.

‘‘We see Hamilton as a city on the move with a lot of recent residential development and some exciting plans ahead for Hamilton East,’’ said Wilson.

‘‘The new store at Ruakura will serve the very established residential areas in the East which have not had close access to a home improvement store, and will mean we are well-positioned to meet the needs of Eastern and Southern residents.’’

Mitre 10 chief executive Neil Cowie said the plans for the new store continued the retailer’s strong national growth. ‘‘Mitre 10’s model of locallyowned stores, combined with the buying strength of the Mitre 10 co-operative is creating the conditions for our business to grow. We have announced seven new Mitre 10 Mega stores over the past two years and recently surpassed, for the first time, more than $1 billion of sales in a 12-month period,’’ he said.

Hamilton City Council agreed last week, in principle, to allow vehicle access from Hamilton’s Ring Rd to the planned store.
