- Teresa Ramsey

Morrinsville Wheelers Cycling Club member Tim Williams has won gold and bronze at the Paracycling Road World Championships at Greenville, South Carolina, in the United States.

He took gold in the H1 time trial and bronze in the H1 road race in the championships.

Races consist of a time trial and a road race where they compete in classes according to their level of disability.

Wheelers club members Sue Reid and Tiffiney Perry also competed, with Reid coming fourth in her two races, while Perry was ninth in her two events.

Chloe Wickman, executive officer for Parafed Waikato and Parafed Bay of Plenty, said it was a fantastic result, considering the team had left a New Zealand winter for racing in 38 degrees Celsius heat.

‘‘It’s an amazing result. They’ve worked so hard and the coaching team has been so supportive,’’ she said.

‘‘The whole team is extremely proud of all the racers that went over.’’

Wickman said parafed was excited about the team’s results, expecially after their success at the Parafed Waikato Awards.

Perry was named Sportsperson of the Year and was also part of the successful Morrinsville Wheelers paracycling team, including Williams and Reid, which won Team of the Year.

Individually they all made podium finishes at either World Cup or world championship events in the past year and combined to win the paracycling team time trial at the the 2014 Club Road Cycling National Championships.
