Refugee quota 4
May I congratulate Keith Brawn (Waikato Times letters, September 8) on his letter regarding the refugee crisis. My thoughts exactly – why isn’t the problem being sorted back in Syria where it started? It shouldn’t be New Zealand, Australia, or Europe or any other country, who has to take responsibility for this crisis. The UN and even the Middle Eastern Arab countries should. They should be made to look after their own. Or perhaps this is another way of ‘‘drowning’’ Western civilisation.
Also, on another subject - C.B. Salisbury’s letter on the flag debate (also September 8) was a very good summary of this debacle.
And please can someone tell me – how on earth does the "fifth choice" tell us anything about New Zealand. It could be any country on this planet!
I also commend Tom O’Connor’s article (again, September 8) – all the legal implications of a change are being neatly sidestepped by John Key and the media (except, perhaps, the Waikato Times, which published O’Connor’s column) until it is too late.
Then it will be, Oh sorry – we should have told you this. It’s going to cost double or even treble what we forcast.
Too bad - you just have to pay up.
So much for democracy and even more, common sense.
