Coming up
Wednesday, March 7: 1pm at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts. International Women’s Day Lunchtime Concert featuring Stephanie Acraman, voice, Katherine Austin, piano, and Lara Hall, violin supported by students of the Conservatorium of Music and University of Waikato Theatre Studies. Note that university authorities feel that these concerts are of such a quality that they should command a fee. I am not sure whether that is for the performers or the university, but it is now $10 at the door.
Saturday, March 10-24: Waipa Gaslight Theatre, 8 Alpha St, Cambridge. Twelve Angry Men. Originally written by Reginald Rose for television and then adapted by him for the film directed by Sidney Lumet, and recast for theatrical performance, this classic tale is superb live theatre.
Sunday, March 11: 5pm at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts. Anderson and Roe Piano Duo. Ever wondered about the boundaries between classical music, jazz, and pop? The extraordinary pairing of these two remarkably entertaining pianists will certainly expand your horizons. The first of this year’s performances presented by Chamber Music New Zealand
Sunday, March 11: 7.30pm at The Meteor Theatre. The Spooky Men’s Chorale 2018 NZ Tour. They describe themselves with such images as thunderous as a herd of wildebeest, as sly as a wagonload of Spike Milligan’s and as sonorous as a cloister of monks. Should be a real blast.
