Bennett ninth

Waikato Times - - Sport -

A top-10 finish at Tirreno-Adriatico might be an early moral victory as he continues to build-up for the Giro d’Italia but George Bennett will still look back on the World Tour race with a sense of frustration after bleeding ‘‘stupid time’’ early on. In what was the most competitive field he’s lined up against outside of the Tour de France, the LottoNL-Jumbo rider capped off a strong week in Italy by finishing ninth place on the general classification standings. He was 16 seconds behind race winner, Team Sky’s Michal Kwiatkowski at the completion of yesterday’s time trial. Kiwis Jack Bauer (Michelton-Scott) and Patrick Bevan (BMC Racing Team) showcased their prowess against the clock, finishing seventh and 14th respectively.
