Backing the use of technology to help people with anxiety, depression, or addictions has won Waikato DHB’s boss a leadership award. Interim chief executive Derek Wright has been awarded the 2018 Leadership in eHealth NZ award, which recognises a contribution to the use of technology in healthcare. Derek had supported technological advances within Waikato mental health, a nomination said, including the empowerment of people with chronic schizophrenia, and self-management. The award was presented at the eMental Health Expert Forum, at Auckland University of Technology. Referees said Derek had a strong sense of social justice, and looked for new and innovative ways to get healthcare to those who need it, a statement said. .
