Nabbed going over fence

A high profile wanted man was nabbed trying to leg it over the fence of a Hamilton home during an armed search on Wednesday night. Waikato police along with the Armed Offenders Squad cordoned off roads around Rodney St and Hyde Ave in the suburb of Nawton around 9pm on Wednesday. They were searching for a man wanted by police for alleged family harm incidents, Waikato police Senior Sergeant Charles Burgess said. He’d been on the run for a few days and information was he was at a property on Rodney St. Police cordoned off the property and called for the man to come out, Burgess said. ‘‘He ran off and was apprehended trying to leave the property over the back fence.’’ Officers grabbed the 47-year-old man who was arrested and taken into custody. They also located a firearm at the property. The man was to appear in Hamilton District Court yesterday facing assault and firearm charges.
