From the editor
I love this transitional time of year. The evenings are still light but the temperatures are dropping and it is easier to sleep. My ageing dog has taken to lying in patches of sunlight again, after a summer spent panting on a gel cooling pad placed under the dressing table. Before long he will be waiting expectantly in front of the fireplace.
While most people do their reflecting and goalsetting at New Year (if at any prescribed time), I tend to wait until autumn. March is the month that I got married, it is the month my first son was born, and it is the month I moved clear across the world for the 15th, and last, time (maybe). It is traditionally a time of change for me, and I like change.
Bring on the new gym routine, the renewed focus on eating vegetables and the quality family time, but go easy on the motivational claptrap. A friend recently gave me the Perpetual Disappointments Diary, which is salve for my Eeyore soul.
If you’re not familiar with this little masterpiece, it is your standard diary filled with gloomy quotes and space to write lists of people who will never call and notes towards a dull novel. I love it, and look forward to filling it with boring obligations.
It’s a transitional time for Your Weekend too. Sunday editor Emily Simpson takes the helm next week, to work her usual magic. As for me, I am off to freelance and hang out with the dog in a patch of sunlight. Take care.
