Raglan subdivision on track

- Geoff Lewis

The biggest subdivision in Raglan’s history is planned to officially open in January with an unveiling ceremony involving Waikato District Council and iwi representatives.

Access to the 120-hectare,

550-section Rangitahi Project will be by a purpose-built bridge.

Project operations and sales manager Sam Laity said the unveiling of special turuturu posts, made from Australian hardwood once used to support the original causeway and carved by local artist Kawharu Greensill and his team, will be part of the celebrations.

‘‘We started construction of the bridge in 2017 and earthworks on stage 1 in January last year along with the upgrade of the Opotoru Rd. It has been a complex job but the road and the bridge are finished.’’

A total of 88 residential sections in stage 1 have been sold and titles will be issued in February next year.

Sections in Stage 1 range from

385 to 1355 square metres, and are selling between $315,000 and

$450,000. The village core includes a 1000 sqm commercial centre design for a ‘‘food and grocery place’’ and the developers would love to hear from an operator.

Work on stage 2, titled The Retreat, began in October and titles for sections will be available from the middle of next year.

‘‘We have 48 lots in total in

Stage 2. We have released 28 and sold 21. Another 20 will be released early next year.’’

Sections in Stage 2 range from 425 to 836sqm and all have harbour or country views.

Among the projects has been the creation of a reserve area with a boardwalk structure, entrance and gateway to the eastern side of the peninsula. This will include a 2.5-3-kilometre walkway as part of 14km of walkways when the project is finished.

‘‘We’ve planted thousands of plants, hundreds of trees and lots of streetscape plantings. We’ve gone a lot further than we needed to,’’ Laity said.

‘‘We have design guidelines and more than 35 designs to help people design their homes. These are submitted to a design review committee to make sure the houses are up to a certain standard. So far we’ve sold more than 110 sections, which shows the shortage of housing in Raglan.

‘‘The biggest challenge has been the weather, which has caused some delays. But we are now on the home stretch and excited to get it finished and allow people to build on this beautiful piece of land.’’
