Sudden death inquiry
Police are investigating a sudden death at a house on Purcell Place in Hamilton. Emergency services were called to the scene around 7.45am on Monday, Detective Sergeant Andrew Saunders said. Saunders said police were aware there had been speculation about the incident, however at this stage the death remained unexplained. A section of the street was cordoned off while emergency services attended. On Monday, Fire and Emergency New Zealand said they were called to the smell of gas on Purcell Place. When they arrived, they said they found a gas panel heater leaking. At the time, a St John spokesman said six people were taken to Waikato Hospital, three in a minor condition, two moderate and one serious.
