Winds blow trees on to roads
Two of the main routes in the central North Island were closed to traffic overnight, after high winds brought down trees on to the road. State Highway 47 and State Highway 5 were the scene of numerous blockages reported. SH47 was closed between the intersections with SH41 and SH46. Detours for the SH5 closure, between Taupo and Hawke’s Bay, were extensive, with motorists only able to get to the bay via Palmerston North or Gisborne. Motorists are urged to check journeys.nzta. govt.nz for up-to-date information about their intended route before setting out.
