India level series

-

Local hero Ravichandran Ashwin played a starring role as India squared the four-match series against England with an emphatic win by 317 runs in the second test in Chennai yesterday. With England needing an unlikely 482 for victory, Ashwin followed up his century with the bat in India’s second innings by taking 3-53 as England were dismissed for 164 on the fourth day. Spinner Axar Patel took 5-60 as India’s spinners made full use of helpful bowing conditions. Earlier, Ashwin (106) scored his fifth test century as India were bowled out for 286 in the second innings. Having picked up a 29th five-wicket haul in England’s first innings, it meant Ashwin had registered a century and bagged five wickets in an innings in the same test for the third time in his career. The third test starts in Ahmedabad on February 24.
