Footpaths for walking

-

The council’s infrastructure operations committee must refer to the dictionary before making decisions: Footpath – narrow path for use by pedestrians only.

The Hamilton City Council committee is now giving support to the scooter operator in Hamilton, but in the end, injuries caused to the pedestrians we ratepayers will have to pay for. These scooters are dumped across footpaths obstructing pedestrians, [left on] grass verges, by the river, and all over. The operator should be fined,

When they ride scooters at high speed on footpaths, [riders] do not look at the pedestrians in front, they look down to avoid potholes in council’s poorly maintained footpaths. Elderly people walking get shocked when these scooters come silently behind them at high speed and then zoom past.

Ratepayers are not going to foot the high legal cost of council’s wrong decisions. In the past, we have paid and now again big businesses are taking action. Next year is an election year, our votes count. (Abridged)
