205 cases, death of man in 40s

There are 205 new cases of Covid-19 in the Delta outbreak, as officials report another death from the virus.

There are also 85 people in hospitals with Covid-19 – six of whom are in intensive care or high-dependency care units.

Of the new cases, 175 were in Auckland, 20 were in Waikato, five were in Bay of Plenty, four were in Northland, and one was in the Lakes District Health Board area.

A man in his 40s who was in Auckland’s Middlemore Hospital with Covid-19 has died. No further informatio­n would be released until conversati­ons with the man’s family had concluded, the Ministry of Health said.

The Delta outbreak has surpassed 7000 cases to date, with 7054 as of yesterday.

Of the 85 people in hospital (up from 83 on Sunday), one was in Whangārei, four were in Waikato and the remaining 80 were in Auckland. The average age of those in hospital was 48.

Of yesterday’s 205 new cases, 103 were linked to a known case and 102 were yet to be epidemiolo­gically linked.
